Soraoko people evicts Inco senior official

The people of Soroako in South Sulawesi province has managed to force the management of nickel mining firm PT Inco in the Soroako district to evict a company mining superintendent from the area, the Kompas daily reported on Wednesday.

Hundreds of Soroako people held a protest at Inco on Monday demanding the eviction of the company senior official.

The protest was made after a local people named Mashudi who had been working as the operator of heavy equipments was transferred by the superintendent to the reforestation division. When Mashudi protested the transfer, he was asked by the superintendent to resign.

The Soroako protesters stopped cars entering Inco and forced senior management of the company to sign the eviction of the superintendent from the Soroako area.(*)
