Sound Oil commences W. Java first drilling activities

UK-based oil firm Sound Oil Plc announced Wednesday that drilling operations have commenced on May 9, 2007 in the Pasundan prospect on the Citarum PSC, onshore West Java.

 

Pasundan - 1 well is being drilled using the Great Wall Rig 93 rig to a prognosed total depth of 10,322 ft and is targeting a hydrocarbon prospect at three potential reservoir levels. The operation is expected to take a minimum of 48 days, the company said.

 

The well is located approximately 50 km southeast of Jakarta immediately to the south of a broad belt of hydrocarbon discoveries that run from west to east across the northern part of West Java.

 

According to the study by the consultant, the expected resources in Pasundan prospect is between 150 million and 342 million barrels of oil.

 

Citarum block belongs to PT Bumi Parahyangan Ranhill Energia Citarum (BPREC) who got the contract on the block on October 7, 2005. BPREC is owned by Malaysian firm Ranhill Energy (60 percent  and operator), Bumi Parahyangan Energi (20 percent) and Sound Oil through Mauritius-incorporated oil company Mitra Energia Limited.(20 percent).
