Power company PT Indonesia Power (IP), a subsidiary of state-owned electricity firm PT PLN, has just quietly signed a MoU with IDX-listed PT Barito Pacific Tbk to team up in the development of the 2x1,000 MW PLTU Jawa-5 coal-fired power plant project, according to a source.

?IP is quietly teaming up with Barito. They signed a MoU two days go,? the source told Petromindo.com on Tuesday, adding that IP was supposed to hold a beauty contest to select partner for the project.

Procurement Director at PLN, Supangkat Iwan Santoso declined to comment. Meanwhile, Director of Commercial and Development at IP, Adi Suprijono did not response to a query made by this portal.

PLN last year appointed IP to develop the PLTU Jawa-5 power plant project, expected to be located in Banten Province. IP was expected to team up with private investor in the project. This portal previously reported that Japanese firms such as Marubeni, Mitsubishi, Mitsui, and Sumitomo, as well as IDX-listed coal giant PT Adaro Energy Tbk were competing to become IP?s partner in the project.
