The South Kalimantan Council demanded the local administration to dissolve the coal control team due to various reasons, the local Banjarmasin Post daily reported.

During a working meeting with the coal control team on Friday, the council said that the team had failed to curb rampant illegal mining activity in the province.

The council also lambaste the coal team for collecting a Rp 5,000 per ton fee for coal trucks passing through the local state road. The councilors said that the coal team had no legal basis for issuing such fee. They demanded the team to end the collection of the fee. According to existing regulation, the coal trucks can not pass through state road.

The council also said that the control of coal mining activity in the province should be given fully to the local office of the mining office.

Meanwhile, head of the coal team Armain Janit said that it would be up to the South Kalimantan Governor whether to dissolve the team. But on the demand to end the coal transportation fee, he could immediately end it as wished by the councilors. (*)
