South Kalimantan Councilors disappointed over coal railway plan

The South Kalimantan Councilors expressed disappointment Monday following the public exposure of plans to construct the 150 Km long railway connecting the Tabalong and Pasir districts in the province.

The local lawmakers were disappointed because the railroad was to be used only to transport coal without consideration to be used for public transportation, the local Kapos daily reported.

Several coal-mining companies will be using the railroad to transport their coal products. The companies including PT Adaro, PT Bentala Coal Mining, PT Antang, PT Mentimin, and PT Kodeco.

But the paper said that despite the disappointment of the legislators, the railroad project was being strongly supported by the public. (*)
