South Kalimantan forms provincial-owned coal mining firm

The South Kalimantan administration has formed a provincial-owned coal mining firm called PD Bangun Bara, the local Banjarmasin Post daily said Thursday.

The paper quoted South Kalimantan Governor Sjachriel Darham as saying that the new company was expected to be able to significantly reduce the illegal coal mining activity in the province. He said that the new company was supposed to be able to sideline the role of local financiers in encouraging the people to mine coal illegally.

The paper said that PD Bangun Bara was part of the new four provincial-owned companies formed by the administration. The local parliament is expected to provide their approval soon.(*)
