South Kalimantan Governor Sjachriel Darham offered an out of court settlement to a group of 50 local lawyers who had filed a legal suit against him for providing a dispensation for the transport of illegal coal products out of the province.
The local Kapos daily quoted Sjachriel as saying that he expected the out of court settlement to be realized before the next Court hearing.
The lawyers filed a legal suit against the Governor, the local illegal coal controlling body, the local parliament and other related institutions for the dispensation policy in the transport of certain illegal coal products out of the province. Under the policy the local administration take a fee of Rp 15,000 per ton of illegal coal transported out of the province.
But the lawyers said that the policy was against the country's policy to fight illegal coal mining. They demanded the Governor to drop the dispensation policy and demanded the illegal coal products to be processed according to existing regulation. (*)
