The South Kalimantan administration has imposed a canal fee for coal barges passing through the Barito river, the Bisnis Indonesia daily reported on Tuesday.

The paper said that the fee is set at 0.20 U.S. cents per ton of coal.

It said that revenue from the fee would be used to help finance the dredging work at Barito the river area, which is projected to need around Rp 47.5 billion in funding.

The project is being carried out by a consortium of state-owned PT Pelindo III and provincial administration-owned company called Bangun Benua.(*)
