South Kalimantan port authority vows to stop shipping of illegal coal

The Banjarmasin Port authority in South Kalimantan province vows not to ship coal products if they're proven to come from illegal miners.

"We are ready not to ship coal from illegal miners," said Djoko of the Trisakti Port.

But Djoko was quoted as saying by the local Banjarmasin Post daily as saying that there had to be confirmation from related government institution it the coal was illegal.

He said that the port authority has no power to investigate outside its territory.

Illegal coal mining has been rampant in the South Kalimantan province. The administration has vowed to fight illegal coal mining, which is seen as a primary factor discouraging new mining investment in the province. (*)
