South Kalimantan's coal output reaches 8.22 tons in five months

The province of South Kalimantan recorded a coal output of 8.22 million tons in the first five months of the year, which were mostly sold for export markets, a top governmental office of the province said on Tuesday.
Head of the province's energy and mineral resources office Suharna A. Rasyid said the figure was the total output reported by the coal mining companies and cooperatives to his office.
However, he was quoted by Antara news agency as saying that the figure did not include the coal output of illegal mining operations, which were rampant in the province.
Suharna said PT Adaro Indonesia recorded a total coal output of 4,316,702 tons, while PT Arutmin Indonesia Pty Ltd, booked a coal output of 3,295,117 tons in the five-month period of between January and May this year.
Both companies account for 92.59 percent of the province's coal output, Suharna said.
Other coal companies operating in the province include PT Bahari Cakrawala Sebuku, which produced 463,987 tons of coal in the five-month period, PT Jorong Barutama (52,432 tons), province-owned PD Mabarta (35,000 tons), PT Bentala Coal Mining (26,271 tons, PT Antang Gunung Meratus (13,437 tons).
Two cooperatives KUD Karya Maju and KUD Usaha Karya produced 7,615 tons and 7,526 tons respectively in the same period.
Ten cooperatives had yet to report their production over the period, Suharna said. They are KUD Karya Nata, KUD Karya Murni, KUD Penerus Baru, KUD Makmur, KUD Karya Lestari, KUD Bersama, KUD Maduratna, KUD Bina Bersama, Teratai Putih and Karya Merdeka.
Four companies, namely PT Sumber Kurnia B, PT Baramulti S.S, PT Tanjung Alam J and PT Kadya Caraka Mulia, had also yet to report their respective outputs over the period, Suharna said.
Suharna added Arutmin and Adaro focused on export market.
Arutmin exported 4,185,986 tons of coal over the period, and sold the remaining output on the domestic market. Adaro sold 2,314,962 tons of coal on the export market and 2,346,856 tons on the domestic market over the same period.
The coal output of all cooperatives, which totaled 15,143 tons over the period, were sold on the domestic market, Suharna said. (*)
