South Korean firms eyeing S. Sumatra minemouth power plant project

A consortium of South Korean and Indonesian firms is interested to build a mine-mouth power plant in South Sumatra, a government official said on Tuesday.

Director General of Electricity J. Purwono told reporters that the consortium which comprised of Korea Power Engineering Company (Kopec), Korea Western Power (Kewespo), both are from South Korea and Indonesian firms state coal miner PT.Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA) and Raja Wali Koresia, will build 4x100-MW power plant in PTBA?s coal concession area in Bangko Barat.

Purwono said the power generated from the plant would be supplied to meet South Sumatra increasing electricity demand. He also said that the consortium had signed MoU with state electricity firm PLN, the single electricity buyer according to Indonesian Electricity Law.

Purwono said investment to build the plant would be around US$400 million. (bernard)
