The South Sulawesi administration plans to negotiate with the state electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) to develop a power generation unit in a bid to help resolve the power crisis in the province, according to Governor HB Paliudju.
Paliudju was quoted by Antara as saying that PLN could make use of the plans by PT Medco Energy International to exploit the natural gas resource in the Senoro area at the latest by 2002.
Medco plans to produce some 200 million cubic feet of natural gas per year.
Paliudju said that he would appeal to PLN to make use of the Medco gas supply to develop a power generation unit.
He said that PLN could develop first the gas-power generation unit because the other plans to develop two hydro-power generation units were not clear until now. (*)
