The South Sumatra provincial administration is developing a 2 MW solar power plant in the capital city of Palembang as part of efforts to diversify sources of energy to renewables.
Administration senior official Ruslan Bahri was quoted by Antara as saying Wednesday that the US$3 million solar power plant project is being developed on a 2.5-hectare plot of land within the Jakabaring sports complex.
He added that the power plant is expected to be completed this year, to support electricity supply in the upcoming 2018 Asian Games, which would partly be held in the province.
Ruslan said that half of the financing requirement for the project comes from Japan?s ministry of environment, while the other half from the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.(*)
