Musi Banyuasin (Muba) Regent Alex Noerdin promised to scrap local rulings which are unfriendly to investors in a bid to attract more investments into the South Sumatra regency.
The local Sriwijaya Post daily quoted Alex as saying that the regency needed new investments to exploit its vast natural wealth including oil, gas, mining, forestry and plantations.
He made the comments following a recent survey, which revealed that Muba was one of the most attractive regencies in the country for investors.
Alex said that the target was to turn Muba into a ?welfare? area by 2006.
He said that Muba had been known as one of the poorest and less developed areas in South Sumatra despite the vast natural resources because the resources had not been fully exploited.(*)
