Southeast Sulawesi demands commissioner seat at Aneka Tambang

The Southeast Sulawesi provincial administration is still awaiting response from publicly listed general mining company PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) to its demand that the province be given a commissioner seat at that firm, provincial governor La Ode Kaimoeddin said on Friday as quoted by Koran Tempo daily.

The governor said they had time and again submitted their request directly to Antam leaders. But they had got no response.

?We are so disappointed that Antam has given no response to our demand. We had them several times to give us a seat at its board of commissioners,? La Ode said.

La Ode said they had in fact discussed their demand with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro and members of Commission VIII of the House of the Representatives (DPR) in charge of energy and mineral resources. Some commission members had even promised to convey the province?s request to Antam, the governor said.

He said the provincial administration would form a special team to find why Antam had given no response to their demand.

Antam, majority owned by the Indonesian government, is listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange and an Australian bourse.

It has nickel mining and smelting operations in Southeast Sulawesi. (*)
