Singaporean oil firm Singapore Petroleum Company Limited (SPC) said Monday that the Wortel-2 appraisal well in the Sampang PSC, offshore East Java, is being plugged and abandoned at a depth of 1,421 metres after failing to encounter significant hydrocarbons.
The well is in 42 meters of water, approximately 1 kilometers southeast of Wortel-1 and 7 kilometers from the Oyong oil and gas field in the same PSC.
SPC and partners planned for further appraisal drilling, including a third well, Wortel-3 appraisal well, to determine the full potential of the Wortel gas discovery, subject to partners and governmental approval and rig availability, said SPC.
Santos is the operator of Sampang PSC with 40.5 percent interest, while Singapore Petroleum Sampang Ltd, Cue Energy and Petrogas Oyong Jatim hold 36 percent, 13.5 percent and 10 percent, respectively. (denny)
