SPE temporarily stops exploration activities in Madura

SPE Petroleum, a unit of Chinese oil, gas giant CNPC temporarily stops its exploration activities in Madura PSC onshore East Java following disappointing exploration results at two wells, a company official was`quoted by Tempo Interaktif as saying.

Operations Manager Ahmad Sadibi said that the company failed to discover oil, gas at Dolang Dolang well in Bangkalan regency and another well called Dungoh in Sampang regency contained poisonous gas.

Another well called Madederop-1 is currently being tested.

Sadibi said the company will resume exploration activities in the block after new seismic data is being acquired in six months? time.

SPE?s exploration activities in the island of Madura had been met with resistance from locals who demanded compensation for damages they said occurred due to company?s exploration activities. (*)
