A group of young men from the Council of Sriwijaya Youth are determined to occupy the office of coal mining operator PT Bukit Asam in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra although the local police has deployed its elite unit Brimob to protect the company.

?Our action is not merely made as a move. We will carry out the action any time the company?s executive board is available at the Tanjung Enim office,? the council?s chairman Edward Jaya said. ?We withdrew to carry out the action yesterday because the management was not in place,? he added.

The Sumatra police office has deployed a unit of its Brimob force to protect after the youth threaten to occupy the company?s office. The youth protested the new management which they said was appointed not through proper procedures.

Meanwhile another group of youth, the alliance of Lawang Kidul youth, said that they would defend the new management. The group?s leader Firmansyah said the protest was incited by certain people who suffered a loss from the company?s management reshuffle.

Meanwhile South Sumatra deputy governor Satya N said that the threat to occupy the coal mining company?s office was exaggerated. ?The company is the state assets. We all should protect it,? he added. (*)
