Star Energy confident to win East Kalimantan exploration block

Oil and gas company Star Energy confirmed on Wednesday that was bidding for an exploration block in East Kalimantan, now being offered by the government through direct offer system.

?We are optimistic to win the block. This is our opportunity to enter East Kalimantan's upstream area,? company president director Supramu Santosa said without naming the block.

In June, the government officially opened the tender for the contracts to explore and develop 13 blocks under a direct offer system. The blocks include Taritip, Sebatik and Wailawi blocks, which are located in East Kalimantan.

The government is expected to announce the results of the tender in early this month.

Star Energy is the operator of Kakap oil and gas producing block in Natuna sea. The company also participates in Banyumas exploration block in Central Java.

Supramu added that the company was currently preparing to drill an exploratory well in Banyumas block this month. (godang)
