Star Energy eyes four geothermal and oil fields

Star Energy hopes to obtain two geothermal fields and two oil and gas fields next year in order to further expand the company?s operation, Investor Daily reported.

The company?s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Energy Bret, said in Jakarta on Thursday that Star Energy was bidding two of the geothermal fields offered by the government during the current tender. The fields are located in Java and Sumatra.

He said that Star Energy which at presents two geothermal fields ? Wayang Baru field in WestJava and Jailolo field in Halmahera, also planned to acquire two oil and gas blocks.

?So, we hope next year will have two more geothermal fields and two oil and gas blocks,? he added.

At present, Star Energy operates the Kakap oil block off Natuna in Riau islands province. The oil and gas block produces 4,000 barrels of oil per day, and 60 million standard cubic feet per day. The company plans to spend about $15 million next year to build a new compressor at the Kakap block.

In addition to the Kakap block, Star Energy also operatesthe Sekayu oil and gas block in South Sumatra and the Sebatik oil and gas block in East Kalimantan. Both blocks are still in exploration stages. (*)
