Indonesian energy firm Star Energy is in talks to acquire Bali geothermal developer Bali Energy Limited.
?Talks are on progress and we will make announcement in due course,? Star Energy Senior official Sanusi Satar said on Monday. He did not give further detail.
Bali Energy is trying to develop a 175-MW power plant in Bedugul area in the tourist island of Bali for more than 10 years, but thus far fails to get approval from local authorities for fearing that development would endanger water supply and would also damage the sacredness of the area, which is considered holy by majority of Hindu population.
Star Energy is currently one of the biggest single geothermal operator in Indonesia through its Wayang Windu plant in West Java which has capacity of 227 MW.(alex)
