The firm would invest between US$150 and $170 million to build the unit, which is designed with an installed capacity of 110 megawatt (MW), Star Energy president Supramu Santosa said on Tuesday.
The new power unit would bring the total capacity of the power plan to 220 MW.
?Construction will start next year and is expected to be completed in 2007,? Supramu said.
According to Supramu, the former owner of the power plant, Magma Nusantara Limited, has the contract to build a power plant with the capacity of up to 400 MW. However, the existing geothermal resources found in the area could only generate up to 300 MW.
Star acquired the power plant from Magma Nusantara on November 25 this year from Deutsche Bank, which represented the consortium of creditors of the power plant. State oil and gas company Pertamina was also interested in the power plant but lost out to Star in the auction as it offered a lower bidding price than Star?s.
Supramu said Start Energy might equip the new power unit with a turbine of the type similar to the one that has been installed at the first power unit, that is a turbine made by Fuji Electric. (Alex)
