Star Energy to drill more wells this year

Energy firm Star Energy plans to drill several wells to find oil, gas resources in various parts of the country.

Company COO Rudi Suparman said on the sidelines of the hearing with the House of Representatives?s Commission VII that the firm will drill the Nunukan South-1 well at the Sebatik PSC, close to the Malaysian borders in East Kalimantan.

The firm will also carry out a geoscience study before deciding to drill another well in Banyumas PSC in Central Java. The firm drilled one exploration well in Banyumas, that is Jati-1 well, in 2005 but found no oil or gas.

Rudi said the firm ?over-invested? in Jati-1 well as it drilled too deep.

?The geoscience study has started in Cilacap area and is expected to be completed in six months,? he said.

Meanwhile, Rudi said, the firm is drilling one well at the Sekayu PSC in South Sumatra, that is Cerah Sekayu-1 well. The drilling program has been temporarily suspended due to floods. (Bernard)
