State shipbuilder PAL develops an offshore rig

State-owned shipbuilder company PT PAL Indonesia is now expanding into offshore rig construction. The company is currently in the process of completing the construction of an offshore oil rig facility owned by Santos Ltd, company President Director Harsusanto said.
The offshore rig project valued at Rp 130 billion is located in Ujung Pangkah, Gresik, East Java.
?We will build the platform and they will purchase the drilling equipment. If the project is successful we will offer our services to other PSCs (production sharing contractors),? he said.
Harsusanto said the oil rig platform will be built at PAL?s shipyard facilities in Surabaya, which he claimed as being one of the competitive edges of PAL. (*)
