Statoil stresses commitment on Indonesia

Statoil of Norway said the process of relinquishing the deepwater Karama block in the Makassar Strait is now in the final stage, and stressed its commitment to continue to carry out exploration activities in Indonesian deep waters despite a huge loss in Karama.

The block is 51 percent owned by Statoil, and 49 percent by Pertamina Hulu Energi.

?Although we are now relinquishing Karama, which is currently in the final stage of the process, Statoil will continue to do exploration in Indonesia, especially in eastern parts of Indonesia,? said spokesperson Tommy Hersyaputra to petromindo.com.

For six years, Statoil had carried out its exploration commitments stated under the PSC. The exploration activities included geological and geophysical studies, 3D seismic, and drilling in three wells - Gatotkaca, Anoman and Antasena.
