Thursday, August 19 2010 - 04:27 PM WIB

(Singapore ? 19 August 2010). Straits Asia Resources Limited today confirmed a further significant upgrade in the coal Resources and Reserves at its Jembayan Operation. The upgrade statements comply with the JORC Code.

The upgrade is the result of the latest information generated from the continuing exploration programme at Jembayan mine.

So far the various stages of the programme have covered approximately 75% of the property.

The latest drilling campaign is part of a planned programme of ongoing development drilling designed to maintain a detailed inventory of sufficient Reserves to support both short term and long term mine planning and product quality control. The appropriate level of inventory will be reviewed annually in accordance with the planned production profile for the mine, marketing requirements, topographic constraints and geological complexity.

In H1 2010 Jembayan mine produced 4.6Mt of coal, with the mine?s target being to progress towards a medium term objective of 12Mtpa. The additional information from the exploration programme underscores the mine?s ability to achieve this target and continue operations at this level for a considerable period of time.
