Straits boosts Sebuku mine coal resources

Wednesday, February 13 2008 - 11:56 PM WIB

Australian mining firm Straits Resources limited announced on Thursday 276 percent resources increase from its Sebuku coal mine in South Kalimantan.

According to the company, JORC-compliant resources now at Sebuku is 387 million tonnes, versus 103 million tonnes by the end of December 2006.

The increase is principally due to the Northern lease areas which were acquired in Decmber 2007 and substantial resources defined in the shallow water between Sebuku and Laut islands, the company said, adding that exploration to further define the Sebuku resource base will continue throughout 2008.

The company is aiming to boost Sebuku coal production to 6 million tonnes per annum in 2009. The addition of the resource might push production even higher in the future , depending on the result of the scooping study that would be undertaken in the next 12 months, it said.
