Singapore Exchange-listed coal mining firm Straits Asia Resources has acquired a coal tenment in central Kalimantan.
The company said the tenement?s location is close to BHP Billiton?s Maruway coal project.
The tenement contains outcrops of high quality Eocene coking coal and Miocene thermal coal, the company said.
Geological field mapping is currently ongoing and field exploration is underway with two months to finalize and compile initial results, said Straits, which is a unit of Australian mining firm Straits Resources Limited.
Currently Straits runs Sebuku coal mine in South Kalimantan with production planned to reach 4 million tonnes this year. (alex)
