Straits eyeing 9MT coal sales in 2008

Singapore Exchange-listed coal miner Straits Asia Resources Limited is on track to sell at least 9 million tones of coal from its Kalimantan mines in 2008, with 7.9 million tones of the output had been committed and priced.
According to a statement released on Thursday, the company expects its newly-acquired Jembayan Muarabara coal mine in east Kalimantan will be able to produce 5 million tones in 2008 with the rest would come from Sebuku mine in South Kalimantan.
Average selling price for the first quarter of 2008 was US$ 49.01 per tonne and would be will be substantially lifted as the year progressed, it said. Straits produced 2.2 million tones of coal from Sebuku and Jembayan during the first quarter of 2008. (denny)
