Straits lifts Sebuku force majeure status

Friday, August 31 2007 - 04:09 AM WIB

Australian mining firm Straits Resources Limited said on Friday that it has lifted force majeure at Sebuku coal operation in South Kalimantan .

"Straits Asia has today notified customers that the Sebuku coal mine has returned to a status where we can declare an end to the Force Majeure and resume the performance of our contractual obligations," the company said in statement.

Shiploading activities will recommence in September, with the first vessel scheduled to arrive and commence loading on September 1, the company said.

Sebuku was forced to declare force majeure at the end of July due to excessive rainfall that hit the area since January. The rain had caused the mine’s first half production to fall to 1.5MT in 2007 from 1.76 in last year's period. (denny)
