Straits reports Indonesian Q1 coal output, sales

Straits Asia Resources Ltd - 100% Coal Co-operation Contract
Sebuku had a strong March quarter with higher than budgeted production of 951 Kt and sales of 850 Kt. The lower sales figure was due to the delay in arrival of one vessel which had not finished loading at the end of the March and will be accounted for in April 2008.
Production is expected to further improve in the June quarter with more by-pass coal exposure at the lower level of the pit. The wash plant has achieved throughput of 400 tph, which is higher than the target of 350 tph as a consequence of a higher utilization rate.
Jembayan Coal Mine, East Kalimantan

Jembayan had an excellent production performance in the March quarter notwithstanding the challenges of integration since acquisition of the mine in late December 2007. Jembayan produced a total of 1,197 Kt of coal and coal sales of 1,185 Kt.
Since acquiring the Jembayan coal mine, there has been a strong focus on exploration to provide a better understanding of the geology of the mining areas to assist with the establishment of an effective and sustainable long term mine plan.
Exploration
Straits Asia exploration activities continue to define extensions to existing coal seams at Sebuku and the recently acquired tenements to north of the current contract of work.
Detailed work on updating resources at Sebuku (including northern leases) and Jembayan is currently in progress.(end of excerpt)
