Together with the 150 KV, 30 MVA Tanjung Ubang substation and the 10 MVA Ngenang substation, which were completed on Nov. 10, 2015, the new facility will strengthen power supply in Bintan, PLN said in a statement.

Aside from the substation, PLN has also completed the development of the 150 KV Tanjung Uban-Sri Bintan transmission line, measuring 19.88 route kilometers with 54 towers, stretching from neighboring Batam Island to Bintan. It thus has made Batam interconnected with Bintan in power system.

At present, Bintan is supplied with power from PLTU Galang Batang, PLTD Suka Berenang, PLTD Air Raja power plants with a combined capacity of 62.6 MW. Thanks to the Batam-Bintan interconnection, the capacity of Bintan?s power system has risen to 150 MW.

The firm said the Batam-Tanjung Uban-Sri Bintan-Air Raja-Kijang interconnection is expected to be completed next week. Once it has happened, the firm will start phasing out some leased power generators. This will enable PLN to save costs by Rp 12 billion per month.
