Sucofindo launches CBM laboratories

State-owned consultancy firm PT Sucofindo has just launched two new coal bed methane (CBM) laboratories in Cibitung, Bekasi, and two central laboratories in Balikpapan and Palembang to support its new CBM test service.
Sucofindo President Director Arief Safari said in a statement published on the company?s website on Tuesday that the new lab facilities will help the domestic CBM industry players to cut cost and obtain greater efficiency. ?There?s no need to send the gas sample for laboratory test overseas any more,? he said.
Sucofindo has recently launched two new businesses including CBM test and energy audit as part of a diversification strategy.
Meanwhile, Kontan reported Tuesday that the company obtained in July of this year the first CBM test contract worth US$2 million from a foreign company. Under the one-year contract, Sucofindo will carry out CBM test in relation to the company?s plan to drill 11 wells in South Sumatra.
Arief was quoted as saying that the company is in the process of acquiring a contract from coal miner Banpu in East Kalimantan. ?Our target is to obtain eight CBM test contracts this year.?
In the energy audit business, Sucofindo has so far obtained four contracts including from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, state oil and gas firm Pertamina, and two foreign companies with total contract value of Rp 8 billion, Kontan reported.
