PT Sulawesi Mining Investment, a joint venture between Indonesia?s Bintang Delapan Group and China?s Tsingshan, is said to nearly complete its second nickel pig iron (NPI) smelter in Morowali, Central Sulawesi, with greater capacity of 600,000 tons per annum.
?Second stage construction is still in progress for 600,000 tons (per annum). It is planned to be completed in December,? Minister of Industry Saleh Husein told Petromindo.com on Friday.
The company in May completed the first smelter with capacity of 300,000 tons, which was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo.
Saleh said that total investment for the two smelters is estimated at around US$5 billion.
