Sulawesi?s largest solar power plant begins operation

A 2 Megawatt-peak (MWp)-capacity solar power plant, called PLTS Sumalata, in East Sumalata District, North Gorontalo, Gorontalo Province, started commercial operation on Wednesday, marking another milestone in the country?s efforts to increase supply of renewable energy, reports said.
Tribunmanado.co.id reported that the power plant, dubbed as the largest solar power plant on Sulawesi Island, was developed by PT Brantas Adya Surya Energi, an indirect subsidiary of state-owned Brantas Adipraya. Construction started in April 2015 and was completed end of last year.
General Manager of state-owned electricity company PT PLN North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, and Gorontalo (Suluttengo) regional office, said that electricity from the Sumalata solar power plant is directly connected (on grid) with a 20kV network of the PLN Gorontalo area distribution system. Peak load produced by the power plant is for three hours, between 11.00 and 13.00 hours with maximum load of up to 2,049 kWp. (*)
