ASX-listed firm Sumatra Copper & Gold Plc announced that Warwick Morris has elected to step down as non-executive Chairman of the company and has been replaced by Steve Robinson, who joined Sumatra as a non-executive Director in July 2013.

The company said in a statement Friday that Morris will remain on the Sumatra board as a non-executive Director, with these changes to the board taking effect immediately.

With the company?s Tembang gold-silver project in Indonesia currently under development, the board would like to maintain close contact between the Chairman and the company?s executive team. Both the company?s corporate office and Robinson are based in Perth, which facilitates this close contact.

Robinson has substantial experience with major resource project developments from prior senior management roles at Barrick (Australia Pacific) Ltd, Iluka Resources Ltd, and WMC Resources Ltd.

Morris has been non-executive Chairman of Sumatra since March 2008 and has guided the transformation of the company from junior explorer to its current status as project developer and emerging mid-tier gold producer.
