South Kalimantan-based coal mining company PT Sumber Kurnia Buana (SKB) produced about 270,000 tons of coal in the second quarter of 2005, much higher from the previous quarter of 158,000 tons.

The company official at production division Ratmono Ratmansunu said Thursday that mining activities were hampered by heavy rain during the first semester this year. However, the company is optimistic that it can improve the output in the second semester.

Ratmono said SKB’s this year output was expected to reach 1.5 million tons, lower from initial target of two million tons.

SKB holds a concession area of 10,920 hectares in Tapin and Banjar regencies of the province.

SKB produced 756,500 tons of coal last year. The company delivers its product to parent company Baramulti group, which also has business in coal and other mining product trading and shipping. (robert)
