PT Sumber Segara Primadaya will expand its steam power plant in Cilacap, Central Java, by developing a new steam power plant (PLTU) with a capacity of 1 x 614 megawatt (MW) and a total investment of US$950 million.

The company had already had a steam power plant in Cilacap with a capacity of 1 x 281 MW that has been in operation to supply power to the state utility PT PLN since 2006.

PT Sumber Segara Primadaya President Director Hari Satria said that in developing the PLTU his company would use the main engine made by China with the technology of supercritical boiler and flue gas desulphurization (FGD).

?The technology is environmentally friendly. It can annihilate the sulfur dioxide (SO2) from the wastes of coal used to fire the power plant,? Hari said as reported by Kontan on Monday.

According to him, the construction of the new power plant will take 36 months, so that it is expected to start commercial operation (COD) in 2016. (*)
