Sumitomo selects Black & Veatch for Indonesia power plant expansion project

Global engineering, consulting and construction company Black & Veatch said it has been selected by Sumitomo Corporation to provide its expertise in the expansion of the Tanjung Jati B power station in Central Java.
Black & Veatch is providing engineering, procurement and commissioning services for the plant?s boiler island balance of plant scope. This includes equipment for coal handling and unloading, air quality control systems and limestone unloading and handling. Sumitomo Corporation is developing the project for PT PLN (Persero), Indonesia?s state-owned power utility.
The expansion will add two new 660 megawatt (MW) units to the coal-fired power station, doubling its overall generating capacity to approximately 2,640 MW.
Black & Veatch was also involved in designing the first two units of the power facility that began commercial operation in 2006.(alex)
