Sumitomo Group has secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) to build a coal-fired power plant in Pomalaa, Southeast Sulawesi.

Antam will spend up to US$120 million to build the power plant, which will have a capacity of 2x30 megawatt (MW) as quoted by Investor Daily.

?We have named Sumitomo for EPC of PLTU Pomalaa coal-fired power plant,? Antam?s President Director Alwinsyah Loebis said, adding that Sumitomo would team up with other firms to carry out the plant?s construction which would be begun later this year.

Antam initially scheduled to begin the construction of the power plant in June 2012, but Alwin refused to mention the reason about the delay. He said the company had no financial problem because it would use part of the funds raised from the recent issuance of bonds to finance the construction of the power plant.

The power plant will provide electricity supply for the company?s new ferronickel smelting plant to be built in the company?s nickel mining area in Pomalaa.(*)
