Sunrise Steel to more than double production capacity

Steel maker PT Sunrise Steel, which produces zinc coated aluminum steel products, aims to more than double production capacity this year to 260,000 tons per year from 120,000 tons per year after the government introduced a safeguard import duty to protect local steel producers against massive import.

Sunrise Director Henry Setiawan was quoted by Bisnis Indonesia as saying Monday that the increase in capacity is aimed at helping to meet domestic demand at a time when local supply is limited.

He said that local production capacity stands at around 3 million tons per year, while demand for coated steel products reaches 12 million tons per year.

Sunrise Steel allocates half of its output to its downstream subsidiary company PT Kepuh Kencana Arum, while the other half to other domestic downstream producers.(*)
