Supreme drills first geothermal well in Muaralabuh

Independent power producer PT Supreme Energi Muaralabuh has successfully completed the drilling of the company?s first well in the Muaralabuh geothermal field in Liki-Pinang Awan in South Solok regency, West Sumatra, Antaranews reported on Saturday.

Drilling of the ML A1 well reached the depth of 1,550 meters, Executive Manager of PT Supreme Energi Muaralabuh (PT SEML) Tri Haryo Indrawan Susilo said here in Jakarta Friday, adding that the company was still testing the capacity of the well in order to be able to determine its economic value.

The drilling of the second well ML B1 would be carried out later this month, he said adding that the ML A1 and ML B1 are part of six wells to be drilled to determine of the existing reserves are significant enough to feed a 2x110 megawatt geothermal power plant to be built in that area.

Six to nine months would be needed to complete drilling of all six wells, he said. (*)
