Surabaya to develop 10 MW waste power plant

The Surabaya mayoralty administration in East Java is teaming up with PT Sumber Organik to develop a 10 MW waste-to-energy power plant by processing the city?s solid waste into electricity.

Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini said Thursday that a 20-year build, operate, and transfer (BOT) scheme has been agreed with Sumber Organik to process about 1,000 tons per day of waste from the Benowo landfill into electricity.

She added that Sumber Organik has also signed a power purchase agreement with state-owned electricity firm PT PLN.

The incinerator to process garbage into electricity has arrived, she added, and installation process is expected to take about three months to complete. (*)
