Suralaya awards $34M coal logistics project to Sembawang Kimtrans

Singapore-based logistics solution provider Sembawang Kimtrans Ltd (SKL) said Monday that it had secured a US$34 million deal from PT Artha Daya Coalindo, a subsidiary of PT Indonesia Power, to provide coal logistics services to the Suralaya power plant in Banten Province.

SKL said under the 3 plus 2 years deal, it would supply and operate a fleet of tug and barge to transport estimated 4 million tons of coal, primarily from East Kalimantan to the power plant.

The deal also included supply and operates one unit of coal transshipper at Suralaya to discharge estimated 10 million tons of coal from the barges to the power plant?s conveyor system, SKL said.

Suralaya power plant, with an installed capacity of 3,400 megawatts and consuming about 11 million tons of coal every year, is the largest coal-fired power plant in Indonesia. (Robert)
