Suralaya awards coal supply contracts to five companies

PT Indonesia Power, the operator of Suralaya coal-fired power plant in Banten, announced Tuesday it had selected PT Risna Karya, PT Kasih Industri, PT Natuna Energi, PT Central Korporindo, and PT Oktasan, to supply a total of 4 million tons of coal to the power plant in 2006.

Indonesia Power operation director Achmad Sadikin said each company would deliver about 1 million tons of coal with calorific value of 5010 kcal/kg at the price of Rp 264,000 per ton.

Achmad said Indonesia Power intended to make the contracts effective for several years. It need, however, approval from the company?s shareholders meeting.

The 3,400 megawatt Suralaya power plant requires around 10.5 million tons of coal per year. The power plant has secured a long-term contract with state-owned coal miner PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam for the supply of 6.1 million tons of coal per year. (godang)
