Electricity generating firm PT. Indonesia Power on Thursday commenced coal procurement e-auction for its 3,400-MW Suralaya coal-fired power plant in Banten province.

Indonesia Power president Abimanyu Suroso said the auction would be held monthly to enable the company to secure safety stock of 500,000-600,000 tons at its stockpile. ?The volume of e-auction would vary from month to month. The volume of coal sought in this auction is 200,000 tons, to complement current stock of 380,000 tons,? Abimanyu told reporters during the e-auction launch in Suralaya.

He further said that e-auction, would enable Suralaya to procure coal at bottom price as it was conducted in transparent and fair manner. Only suppliers with ready coal stock are eligible to participate in the auction.

Suralaya gets its coal supplies mainly from State coal mining firm PT.Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam and Kalimantan coal producers under term contracts.

At full capacity, the plant consumes some 27,000 tons of coal daily. (maya)
