State-owned power producer PT Indonesia Power said Friday it had secured commitment from several Kalimantan-based coal producers to supply their products to its Suralaya coal-fired power plant in Banten province.

?The commitment from Adaro, Arutmin, Kideco, Berau Coal, and off course from our main supplier PTBA, will enable Suralaya to survive until April," Indonesia Power?s president Firdaus Akmal told Petromindo.Com.

Suralaya is now in serious coal-supply problem as state-owned PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam was forced to cut supply due to transportation problem.

According to Firdaus, around 950,000 tons of coal per month is required to fuel the 3,400-megawatt Suralaya power plant.

He added said that his company was currently looking for some vessels to transport the coal from Kalimantan.

PTBA is Suralaya?s major supplier. Under a 10-year contract, which became effective last year, it obligate to supply around 6.1 million tons of coal annually to the power plant. (godang)
