PT Indonesia Power, the operator of the Suralaya power plant has received a warning letter from the Cilegon municipality in Banten for not having a proper permit in managing the industrial waste from the power plant, Koran Tempo reported on Thursday.

The head of the municipality's environment and mining office, Wawan Hermawan, said in Cilegon on Wednesday that Indonesia Power violated the local government's regulations on industrial waste management.

He said that any company which would manage their own industrial waste should receive a permit from the local authority. "Up to now, the Suralaya plant has yet to obtain a proper permit to manage its waste disposal," he added.

According to him, the permit is needed to ensure that industrial waste disposal will not cause a problem to the environment. (*)
