The Suralaya power plant in Banten province during the past one month has started to enjoy an ideal level of coal stock of around 65,000 tons or equal to 20-day consumption, the Neraca daily said.

The paper said that the abundant coal stock was due to the decline in the use of coal as the company intensified the operation of the hydro power generating unit during the current rainy day season, and because of increasing number of coal suppliers offering the commodity to Suralaya.

Suralaya, which needs around 30,000 tons of coal per day, previously suffered a lack of coal reserve for about a year. Coal from its major supplier PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam was disrupted due to transportation problem.

The paper said that the current suppliers of coal to Suralaya include coal mining firms Bukit Asam, PT Adaro, PT Kideco and PT Arha Daya Coalindo. In addition, Suralaya also secures its coal needs from the spot market and cooperatives.(*)
