The power supply in the Java-Bali interconnection has suffered a deficit of between 200 and 250 MW due to a technical problem taking place at one of the seven power generation units operated by the coal-fired Suralaya power plant in Banten, West Java.

Muldjo Adji AG, the head of the power traffic control of the state-owned electricity company PLN, confirmed on Thursday that a leakage had occurred in one of the pipes connected to the boiler in one of the Suralaya plant?s generation units.

?The leakage has resulted in the decline in the power supply from the power plant by between 200 and 250 MW,? he said. ?We hope the technical problem could be resolved soon, so that on Sunday, the power supply would back to normal,? he added.

The Suralaya power plant, which has seven power generators, produces about 3,400 MW of power, or about 25 percent of the total power supply in the Java-Bali interconnection grid. (dino)
